Therapy for children with special needs is costly, early intervention hinges on family means

Notably, even locally, those willing to pay out of pocket struggle to find equivalent in-class support. Public data indicate that Hong Kong's public assessment and therapy places have long fallen short of demand, with waits often measured in years, while a single private session is expensive — so the effectiveness of early intervention depends largely on a family's ability to pay.

The cruellest part is that whether a child can seize the critical early-intervention window comes down, in the end, not to their condition but to their family's means.
